RH10010

Power Team RH10010 – 100 Ton, Double-Acting Center Hole, Cylinder, with 10.12 in stroke

The RH10010 is a robust 100-ton, double-acting center-hole hydraulic cylinder that in both extension and retraction, making it ideal for push / pull, tensioning, anchor bolt, and cable applications.  It features a 10.12-inch stroke, a retracted height of 19.50 inches, and an extended height of 29.62 inches.  It gives 106.9 tons of theoretical push force at 10,000 psi, and its (retract) side has (47.1 tons).  The outside diameter 8.50 in, and it includes a 3.14 in center hole.

Built for durability and demanding service, the RH10010 includes features such as corrosion-resistant standpipe treatment via Power-Tech, plated piston rods to resist wear, superior packing combinations to minimize leakage, and interchangeable piston head inserts for application flexibility (plain vs tapped connections).  A built-in safety feature helps prevent over-pressurization of the retract circuit, and the cylinder uses standard 9796 3/8 in NPTF female half couplers for hydraulic connections. Steel versions from 60 to 200 tons also come with removable carrying handles for easier handling.

Application Notes & Considerations

The RH10010 is tailored for demanding push/pull or tensioning operations where a through-rod or cable must pass through the piston—use cases include anchor bolt stressing, cable applications, stud forcing, or structural jacking with load reversal. Because it’s double-acting, it offers controlled motion in both extension and retraction without relying on springs. The presence of a safety relief valve in the retract circuit is critical in preventing overpressure damage if retract fluid flow is restricted. As with any high-tonnage cylinder, alignment of load along the axis is essential to avoid side loads that accelerate wear. Maintenance or disassembly should be performed only by qualified technicians, especially given the presence of internal pressure components and the built-in relief valve.

  • The RH10010 includes a built-in relief valve in its retract circuit to prevent excessive pressure if the retract port becomes blocked or restricted. This is an overpressure safety feature and must not be tampered with. If it begins leaking oil, the cylinder should be removed from service and returned to an authorized repair center.
  • The cylinder uses Loctite 242 on the final 2–3 threads of the standpipe (for units built after Jan 1999) instead of a set screw, to lock the standpipe into the body.
  • The insert at the piston can be changed between a tapped (threaded) version or a plain through-hole, which gives flexibility for different applications (e.g. cable vs rod pass-through).
  • The manufacturer spec notes that, under push mode at full 10,000 psi, the RH10010 can deliver 106.9 tons, and in pull (retract) mode 47.1 tons, based on its effective areas.
  • Weight is 240 lb for the cylinder body.

Power Team RH10010 – 100 Ton, Double-Acting Center Hole Cylinder, 10.12 in Stroke

The Power Team RH10010 is a 100-ton capacity, double-acting, hydraulic center hole cylinder engineered for heavy-duty industrial applications that require both push and pull capability. Its 10.12-inch stroke provides substantial travel for tasks such as tensioning, pulling cables, pushing bearings, and removing or installing pins or bushings where force must be applied through a central opening.

🧩 Considerations / Limitations

  • Double-acting design: Unlike single-acting cylinders that rely on spring return, the RH10010 uses hydraulic pressure in both directions—providing faster, controlled retraction even under load or when working horizontally. This requires a compatible double-acting pump.
  • Center hole configuration: The hollow plunger allows a threaded rod or cable to pass through the piston centerline, making it ideal for tensioning, jacking with threaded bars, or testing applications. However, the through-hole slightly reduces piston area and overall lifting efficiency compared to solid-piston types.
  • Hydraulic pump and hose compatibility: Rated for 10,000 psi (700 bar) operation, so hoses, couplers, and the hydraulic power source must match this pressure rating. Use a Power Team or equivalent double-acting pump for safe operation and full performance.
  • Weight and handling: At over 100 tons of capacity and with its heavy steel body, proper lifting or handling equipment is needed to position the cylinder safely.
  • Alignment and load centering: To prevent uneven loading or rod bending, always ensure the applied load or tensioning rod aligns directly with the cylinder’s center hole. Off-center loads can cause premature wear or seal damage.

🏗️ Typical Applications

  • Post-tensioning and cable tensioning in bridges, buildings, and precast concrete structures.
  • Bushing, pin, and bearing installation/removal where force must pass through a central rod.
  • Maintenance and repair operations involving heavy assemblies that need pulling or pushing through a threaded bar.
  • Testing and calibration systems requiring precise, controlled bidirectional hydraulic movement.
  • Construction, shipyard, and mining industries where large loads need controlled movement in both directions.

🔧 Installation & Safety Tips

  • Mount securely on a solid, level surface or fixture capable of supporting full rated force.
  • Use rated accessories—hoses, fittings, and pumps must match or exceed the cylinder’s 10,000 psi rating.
  • Bleed air from both hydraulic lines before operation to ensure smooth and predictable motion.
  • Avoid side loads: the center-hole design reduces lateral strength; keep tension rods straight and aligned.
  • Monitor for leaks and wear: inspect seals and couplers regularly, especially when operating in dusty or corrosive environments.
  • Follow Power Team service manuals and safety standards for setup, operation, and maintenance. Misuse at 100-ton capacity can result in severe injury or equipment damage.
